Wara Art Festival 2017 in Japan shows several giant animal sculptures which are made with the straw left over from the harvest.
Fall season means harvest season. Currently, festivals to celebrate the season are being held all over the world.
Recently, in Northern Japan, Wara Art Festival was held in September-October harvest season, and this festival is one of many fun ways to make use of the left over straw.
Wara Art Festival has actually been taking place Niigata, a city in Japan, since 2008. This festival started off as a collaboration between the city’s tourism division and Musashino Art University.
Before, straw was used to create many things in Japan, such as tatami mats. However, now it has been replaced with wood and plastics in most house.
The students of Musashino Art University worked together to fill in the fields in Niigara with the giant animal sculptures made with straw, and they have been doing it every yeas since then.
